If you’re visiting Yorkton, Saskatchewan, you must check out the
Western Development Museum (WDM).
The WDM tells the story of Saskatchewan from its very beginning to the present day. With several locations throughout the province (Moose Jaw, North Battleford, Saskatoon, and Yorkton), Yorkton’s location is focused on those who immigrated to Saskatchewan from other provinces and other countries throughout the years.
The Western Development Museum serves as both an educational and community hub for Yorkton, hosting exhibits and events throughout the year that bring together locals and visitors alike.

Canada Day Picnic | July 1
The Western Development Museum is a great place for the Yorkton community to get together for holidays and special events! If you’re in Yorkton this Canada Day, and especially if you’re with family or children, be sure to check out the annual Canada Day picnic at the Museum. This will be a full-on celebration, with rides, live entertainment, treats, games, and even a birthday cake for Canada’s 151
Canola: A Story of Canadian Innovation | Until July 8
Canola oil is used all over the world for an incredible array of purposes! Did you know that even the name canola pays respect to its Canadian heritage? The “Can” in canola stands for Canada, whereas the “Ola” stands for Oil Low Acid. In just a few decades, canola had become the most profitable commodity for Canadian farmers due to its versatility, and nowadays the canola industry contributes billions of dollars to the national economy. This exhibit marks the 50
anniversary of the canola crop in Canada, and explores the science of canola farming, cultivation, and processing, as well as its role in the Canadian economy.
