This December, the holidays won’t be the only thing on the minds of Yorktonians.
That’s because the Pinty’s Grand Slam of Curling—specifically the Meridian Canadian Open—will be taking place in our rinks from December 8th to 13th. The national event, which hosts the world’s best curling teams, is spread over seven opens and includes $1.5 million in prize money—needless to say, it’s a pretty big deal in the world of curling.

Hosted at Yorkton’s very own Gallagher Centre, the Meridian Canadian Open is the 4th stop on the Grand Slam tour. So why is the event so important to Saskatchewan? Because hockey isn’t the only winter sport we’re good at! In fact, Canada has proven to be more than able on the curling rink, winning three of the past four gold medals in the sport in the last two Olympics.

Yorkton is no exception to this: at last year’s Grand Slam, the Gallagher Centre was packed to the brim with cheering fans. Not only is curling a blast to watch, it’s even more fun in person thanks to these enthusiastic aficionados. We recommend getting your tickets early so as not to miss out on the 80 games that will be held over the six days.

We at Yorkton Home Inn & Suites are more than excited about both the event and the fun atmosphere it brings to the city, and we won’t be surprised to hear the cheers echoing from our onsite TVs and computers—especially since the event is to be fully streamed online.

In fact, we won’t be surprised to see some of the world’s best curlers walking through our halls with their brooms in hand, so whether you’re a competing curler or a curling fan, we can’t wait to host you in our luxury rooms. Book yours today. We look forward to your visit, and hope your trip “rocks”!
