With COVID-19 cases under control and vaccines being distributed across the province, Saskatchewan is finally starting to reopen. And that means that many summer events in Yorkton are going forward. The Western Development Museum Yorkton isn’t wasting any time. They have already released a summer schedule of events for visitors and locals alike to partake in.
Canada Day Celebrations
Celebrate Canada Day this July 1st with a whole host of virtual activities via the Western Development Museum Yorkton. Hosted in conjunction with Tourism Yorkton, the City of Yorkton, and the Yorkton Canada Day Committee, Canada Day Celebrations provides a way for people of all ages to celebrate and learn about Canada. On the Western Development Museum website you’ll find Canada Day activity kits, instructions for a Canada Day Colouring Contest, as well as a Best Decorated Home contest and a Coolest Canada Selfie contest.
Gardening in Saskatchewan Workshop
Explore plants native to Saskatchewan and learn about gardening all in one workshop hosted by the Western Development Museum Yorkton. This family-friendly event is suitable for all ages and will feature an insect-inspired craft (like a firefly lantern or dragonfly napkin holder) and will teach you how to make a fairy garden that you can take home. It’s an in-person, outdoor event and pre-registration is required to attend. So far, there are two dates for the Gardening in Saskatchewan Workshop, July 14th and July 17th from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
Camping & Exploring Saskatchewan Workshop
Who doesn’t love camping in the summer? Whether you’re new to the world of camping or just want to learn more, the Western Development Museum Yorkton is pleased to host a Camping & Exploring Saskatchewan Workshop on July 21st and 24th. The informative, educational event will tell viewers about what being outdoors in the summer has been like over the past century. The event is suitable for children ages 7 and up and will also teach attendees about the basics of camping, about wildlife native to Saskatchewan, and will feature a take-home outdoor BINGO card.
If you’re going to be in Yorkton this summer, then be sure to attend any of the events and workshops above. And if you need a place to stay during your visit, we’d love to host you at the Home Inn & Suites Yorkton. We offer quality accommodation, family-friendly amenities, and an unbeatable location in the heart of the city.
